Positive performance for our social care services
September 21, 2011 No CommentsSocial care services are improving and people in need are better supported – that’s the message from Bridgend County Borough Council’s Director of Social Services in her annual report.
BCBC Cabinet Members have also been told how the response time to individuals who needed social care services has got better despite an overall increase in new referrals.
In her report, Abigail Harris, BCBC’s Corporate Director for Wellbeing, (pic left) said a greater number of adults are now able to live more independent lives through developments such as the network of local learning disabilities day centres, tele-care installations and re-ablement services.
Other achievements include shoring up our front line safeguarding and family support teams, improving the range of support services available to families and falling sickness levels among staff thanks to improved management
But Cabinet Members also heard that the Director has prioritised a number of further improvements required to services including bringing in new models of care so that more people can live safely and independently at home, being more ‘customer-focussed’ and delivering more services in collaboration with other authorities.
The report will form part of the Welsh Government’s review of all 22 local authorities and will feed in to the overall analysis of social services and social care in Wales to inform policy and ministerial advice.
Welcoming the report, Councillor Lyn Morgan, BCBC Cabinet Member for Wellbeing (pic right), said: “This shows a positive and improving picture of social care services in Bridgend County Borough. As a Cabinet and as a council we are committed to protecting and supporting those who need us from cradle to grave. I’m confident that we have excellent safeguards and initiatives in place while still being mindful of what additional work we need to do.”
