Flexible funding for social enterprises in Bridgend
August 25, 2011 No CommentsThe South East Wales Community Economic Development Programme in Bridgend is launching its flexible grant scheme which supports social enterprise projects operating within Bridgend County Borough at Bethlehem Life Centre, Cefn Cribbwr today.
The event will be officially launched byCllr David Sage, Deputy Leader, Bridgend County Borough Council and will include a keynote address by Professor Dave Adamson OBE (PICTURED), Director of theUniversity ofGlamorgan’s Centre for Regeneration and Sustainable Communities. Professor Adamson was awarded the OBE for his contribution to regeneration inWales. Much of his research is for the government and has shaped policy inWales at a local and national level.
Neil Ellis of Youth of Betws, a club for young people in theGarwValley, will also provide insights into sustaining projects by sharing the journey the club took which led to the ambitious construction of an eco friendly bunk house adjacent to the youth facility in the heart of the village.
The launch will be followed by a funding fair where local funding providers and support agencies will be on hand to offer advice on the support that is available to groups within the Bridgend area.
The purpose of the programme is to build sustainable and vibrant communities through the development of social enterprise activities. The fund options are aimed at supporting and developing sustainability within the third sector and reducing grant dependency. A support package is available to provide a business development service of advice, guidance, mentoring, training and development initiatives.
The funding is available to community based organisations that generate income through trading with a legal structure and social objectives.
Grants are available up to £80,000 and are based on up to 75% of the eligible project costs.
Eligible projects could include the purchase of equipment, land and buildings, building refurbishment, business planning, feasibility studies and marketing strategies, staff costs and project running costs.
This programme is supported by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Labour Government.
