Bridgend County Borough council has implemented special strategies in the 1 in 200 chance of over one and half thousand homes and businesses being affected by flooding, following a report into the risks of flooding in the area.
A report which looks at the chances of serious flooding in Bridgend County Borough has concluded there are no areas where a large number of properties or businesses are at risk of significant harm.
However BCBC Cabinet Members have heard that there are more than 1,000 properties and 650 businesses at some risk throughout the borough, with a 1 in 200 annual chance of flooding occurring.
Special management strategies are in place to deal with the problems of flooding locally.
Flood risk data and historic record data which were collected for the Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment report have now been added to a new database.
It means any new flooding incidents will be recorded in a set format which will make assessments more reliable and consistent in future.
The report has been approved by the Environment Agency.
BCBC Deputy Leader, Councillor David Sage, said: “This is a very important report aimed at reducing the risk of floods here in Bridgend County Borough. We know we do have some places which can be affected by flooding but it is reassuring to know that we have a good database and local teams on hand to monitor the situation and take appropriate action when necessary.”
