May 24, 2011 No CommentsAt the Annual General Meeting of Bridgend County Borough Council, Councillor Mel Nott was returned as Leader along with Councillor David Sage as Deputy Leader.
Also returned were Councillor Lyn Morgan as Cabinet member for Wellbeing, Councillor Alana Davies as Cabinet member for Children and Young People, and Councillor Huw David as Cabinet member for Resources.
Councillor John Spanswick stepped down as Cabinet Member for Communities, with Councillor Phil White now taking on the Communities portfolio.
This will be the current administration’s fourth year of office.
Councillor Chris Michaelides was selected as the next Mayor of Bridgend County Borough. His Deputy Mayor will be Councillor Marlene Thomas. The Youth Mayor and Deputy Youth Mayor will be Abigail Richards and Catherine Jones, taking over from Amy Butlin and Hollie Mediana.
Returning as Leader, Councillor Nott said: “I’d like to thank Council for my re-appointment and say how privileged I feel to serve as Leader of Bridgend County Borough Council. I am well aware that you put enormous trust and faith in me to carry out this important role and I want to assure you that I will continue to do my utmost on behalf of you all, and for the people of this county borough.
“Councillor Phil White has agreed to become the Cabinet Member for Communities, taking over from our colleague Councillor John Spanswick. I am extremely grateful for everything John has given to his portfolio over the last three years. He will, of course, be greatly missed by the rest of the Cabinet. However, I am delighted Phil is joining us. I know his experience and enthusiasm will be a great asset.
“Phil is joining a strong team who always show great commitment to their roles and portfolios. I offer my sincere thanks to all the Cabinet Members for their ongoing work and dedication. I am particularly pleased that my Deputy Leader will once again be Councillor David Sage.
“I also wish to recognise and place on record my appreciation of the work carried out by ALL elected members. As a council we have a number of political groups and this brings with it differing opinions and viewpoints. However, we are united in wanting the very best for our communities. I know how hard you work, around the clock, to help your constituents. I believe we share a genuine commitment to mature political debate and sensible scrutiny.
“I am very proud to once again have the opportunity to lead this authority. We continue to work hard to make Bridgend County Borough a better place to live, learn, play, work and visit.”
