Trelales Primary School makes a splash at local swimming galaTrelales Primary School scooped the top school award at the Bridgend County Borough Council ‘Swimming Challenge Grand Final’ event last week.

The annual event was held at Pencoed Swimming Pool and saw top teams and swimmers from across the county borough go head to head. All those competing had qualified from five previous heats and as a result the standard was notably high.

Swimmers were presented with their medals by Olympic triathletes Mark and Helen Jenkins, whose attendance was a great example of what can be achieved through dedication and training.

Swimming Development Officer, Andy Walker said: “The grand final saw a diverse mixture of swimmers, representing 19 different primary schools from across the County Borough. The number of parents, relatives and friends who attended to support the children during their races just serves to highlight the importance many people attach to swimming.

“I hope that with the help of channels such as Bridgend County Swim Squad many of the children will continue on to swim at a much higher level in the future. We are extremely fortunate that here in Bridgend County Borough we have the facilities and organisations to provide that opportunity.”
