High standards of PE and sport recognised in local schools
July 19, 2010 No CommentsTwo borough primary schools have been commended for their PE prowess!
Maes yr Haul and Nottage have each achieved the prestigious Sports Council for Wales ActiveMarc Cymru Award.
It recognises a commitment to developing quality PE and school sport for all children by identifying schools with high quality of provision and standards, as well as the best facilities.
Areas assessed during the application process range from how effective teaching and training methods are to whether learning experiences meet the needs and interests of learners and the wider community.
Maes yr Haul Primary headteacher Margaret Lugg said: “We are proud to be receiving this award as the high profile given to PE and school sport is evident across the school. There is a real commitment and enthusiasm from staff and children and I believe this is why we have been successful in achieving the ActiveMarc award “
PE coordinator for Nottage Primary, Gareth Phillips added: “Good PE provision is vital during this stage of education and lays the foundation for positive future involvement. We are extremely lucky to have highly qualified PE staff and this achievement really does demonstrate a tremendous team effort.
“Another special mention goes to our school basketball team who have just won the local league and are now competing in the Welsh National Basketball Championships. They follow the recent success of both our football and rugby 7s teams.“
Both awards demonstrate the commitment within schools and the wider borough to improve participation in sport and recreation at all ages.
