All eyes will be on the River Ogmore next week as Bridgend and Maesteg Canoe Club host the Ogmore Canoe Slalom. Taking place on 26 and 27 June the event will include a variety of different competitions ranging from division four races for complete beginners, to more advanced competitions such as the Welsh Schools Championships.

Taking place beside Bridgend Recreation Centre, first runs will begin at 11am Saturday and 9am Sunday. Spectators are welcome in what promises to be an eye-catching opportunity to see our river come to life.

Councillor Lyn Morgan, Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, said: “Here at Bridgend County Borough Council we acknowledge the importance of keeping fit and active. It is fantastic to see exciting competitions such as this taking place within the borough, introducing residents to alternative forms of exercise.

“Members of the Bridgend and Maesteg Canoe Club use our council-run facilities and we are extremely proud to be able to provide a high standard of facility and service to them. Supporting local clubs and events like this is very important to us and we would like to wish all competitors taking part in next week’s event great success.”
