A-level student Katherine McGrath has been charged with murdering her boyfriend just hours after collecting her results. McGrath 18, is alleged to have stabbed 22-year-old Alyn Thomas at the home she shared with her parents in Fenwick Drive, Bridgend, South Wales.

Emergency services were called to the address at around 2.30am last Friday, where paramedics found Thomas, from Cymmer, Neath Port Talbot, at the house but were unable to resuscitate him. McGrath was arrested by police at the scene and was charged with murder earlier on Tuesday.

McGrath spoke only to confirm her address and date of birth as she stood in the dock. Her application for bail was rejected by Magistrate Paul Porter, who said she was to be remanded in custody until September 1st when she will appear at Cardiff Crown Court.
